In case nobody noticed, it’s Friday the 13th. I’m wondering what superstitions people have, and what scares them the most. Do you avoid cracks in the sidewalk? Afraid of deep water? Get that little voice in your head that says “jump,” when standing at the railing on the 10th floor of a building?

Me, I’ve got my own hang-ups and fears. I’ve heard that “jump” voice more than once. I’m deathly afraid of spiders, and make my wife kill one if I see it in the house. I have some superstitions about writing too. For example, I don’t like to tell people about plots I’m working on—I’m afraid the story will lose its mojo. I can’t write on anything but a computer. And I can only feel properly inspired with a severed head in my top drawer (ok, just kidding about that last one).

In honor of Friday the 13th, I’m asking for responses from anyone and everyone on this topic. Leave me a comment telling me about your fears and superstitions (if you don’t see a comment box below, click here to post, or view others’ comments).

Come on, step to the plate! Give me your deepest, darkest fears, or your strangest superstitions. We’ve all got ‘em. Let yours out of the closet.
